They arrest three people involved in the murder of an elderly man in Artemisa

The National Revolutionary Police (PNR) arrested three people allegedly responsible for having murdered an elderly resident in the province of Artemisa who was reported missing a few days before his body was found with marks of violence last week.

According to the official profile ‘Angerona de Cuba’, used to share Castro propaganda on Facebook, the victim, identified as Carlos Maestre López, 67, was murdered during an illegal currency exchange.

According to the publication, relatives of the old man claimed that he had agreed to exchange $1,600 with a woman named “Ania,” and disappeared after leaving his home in order to meet her.

Everything indicates that this woman’s uncle, “Ariel”, agreed with her to commit the crime, thus keeping the money and ending the old man’s life.

The source consulted by the official website indicated that the officers also arrested Ariel’s brother, in the municipality of Bahía Honda.

While the publication indicates that the third arrested person was detained because he was already wanted for the crime of “large cattle,” it did not specify the level of involvement he had in the murder of the elderly man.

For now, the investigation remains open in case more are involved, all while the three suspects are already in preventive detention.

Finally, the publication recalled that the Granma newspaper stated a few months ago that 90% of the murder cases on the Island were solved, this in an obvious attempt to maintain calm in the face of the growing insecurity that exists on the Island.

It is important to remember that the old man left his home last Tuesday, October 17, aboard his electric motorcycle. When he did not return, the family reported him missing, taking his case to the police..

After a brief search, the body of Carlos Maestre López was found on October 19, in a sugarcane field “near Lincoln University, in Artemisa.”

The Cuban Institute for Freedom of Expression and Press (ICLEP) reported on what happened, noting that the body was found with marks of violence. Since the case was reported, it was known that it had been a robbery, since the money and the old man’s motorcycle were not found at the site.
