They accuse Bremen technician of using false vaccine document

German authorities are investigating Werder Bremen coach Markus Anfang for allegedly using a false certificate of vaccination against the coronavirus, the club said.

Germany’s second division soccer team said late Thursday that it was informed of the accusation that afternoon and that Anfang denies any wrongdoing. Bremen prosecutors confirmed to the dpa news agency on Friday that it was investigating the claim.

“Like any other citizen with double vaccination, I received both doses at an official vaccination center,” and I have the documents to prove it, Anfang said in a club statement. “I look forward to this matter being resolved as soon as possible.”

In Germany, proof of vaccination or recent recovery from coronavirus infection is required to enter many restaurants or other public places, depending on the rules established by different states.

Anfang took over as Bremen manager in June after the team was relegated from the Bundesliga after 40 years in German soccer’s top division. Bremen occupies the eighth position of the second division table and on Saturday they face Schalke.
