What are the most attractive districts on the outskirts of Lyon? The Lyon City Crunch site unveiled in mid-January a ranking that was unexpected to say the least.
The site Lyon City Crunch identified neighborhoods in the suburbs of Lyon which could become particularly attractive shortly. Social diversity, multiculturality, affordable prices, access to the outside … The website has reviewed many criteria to select three neighborhoods. The astonishing winners are Vaulx-en-Velin, Bron and the Charpennes district.
Vaulx-en-Velin, modern and accessible
At the top of the list: Vaulx-en-Velin. This commune has a young population and is one of the most populous in the metropolis of Lyon. Since the riots that took place there in the 90s, a negative image sticks to the city. For the past ten years, Vaulx-en-Velin has been working hard to attract new inhabitants. New, modern and inexpensive housing has been built for this purpose. At the cultural level, the CCO and Ninkasi have already invested the territory, without forgetting the cultural squat of Ground Zero. The downside of Vaulx: mobility. The town is connected to Lyon by the only line A of the metro and buses. However, a tram line is being studied to remedy this.

Charpennes, between Lyon and Villeurbanne
If this district of Villeurbanne could appear out of the way, we should not stop at this image. A stone’s throw from the 6th arrondissement of Lyon, a few minutes walk from the Tête d’Or park or the Part-Dieu on the other side, the Charpennes district has a strategic position. The two tram and metro lines allow you to reach the city center or any other district of Lyon quickly. The ring road is not very far either and allows you to get out of the city quickly, without facing traffic jams in the center. The downside: local shops, which are lacking for a real neighborhood life.

Finally, the city of Bron is on the podium. This town does not particularly make Lyonnais dream. And yet. Bron is certainly one of the best places to live if you want to be able to get out of Lyon as quickly as possible. Ideal for those who work on the outskirts. It is also a city in its own right, with its center, its different districts and … its houses with gardens! A rare commodity in the metropolis of Lyon. In addition, traffic is far from being as dense in Bron as in Lyon itself, which guarantees calm nights without unwanted horn noises.
