These seven houses in Guimarães received an architecture award in the United States

The world premiere, on September 19, of the play “Catarina and the beauty of killing fascists”, by Tiago Rodrigues, is one of the highlights of the cultural program of Guimarães for the last four months of this year, was announced today.

The play, which had its premiere scheduled for last season, postponed because of the pandemic, will have its first performance in Guimarães before being taken to Teatro Vidy, in Lausanne, between the end of this month and the beginning of October, and its presentation in Vienna, among other European stages, in Rome, Paris or Toulouse.

Other highlights for Guimarães are the 7th edition of Westway LAB, from 14th to 17th of October, and the 29th edition of Guimarães Jazz, from 12th to 21st of November.

The program also highlights the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Centro Cultural Vila Flor, with a concert, on September 12th, with Teresa Salgueiro and the Guimarães Orchestra.

Teresa Salgueiro was at the opening of ‘Vila Flor’, then as vocalist of Madredeus.

Still within the scope of the celebrations, there will be two artistic installations, by Nelson Duarte and Berru, that will give life to the glass on the facade of the small auditorium and the covered square of the Cultural Center.

Camané and Mário Laginha will perform on October 24, carrying out a concert that was scheduled for May, but that had to be postponed because of the covid-19 pandemic.

For December 18th, the play “Aurora Negra”, by Cleo Tavares, Isabél Zuaa and Nádia Yracema, which premiered on Thursday at the National Theater D. Maria II, in Lisbon, and which addresses the invisibility of black bodies in the performing arts.

The executive director of A Oficina, Ricardo Freitas, who manages the cultural facilities in Guimarães, emphasized the restrictions imposed by the covid-19 pandemic, right from the start in terms of capacity, as is the case of the large auditorium of ‘Vila Flor’, that goes from 800 seats to about half.

He underlined the work developed so that everything runs safely, making it clear that only what does not depend on A Oficina will not happen.

The cultural program for the last four months of this year also highlights the exhibition to open on December 5th, at Palácio Vila Flor, which will bring together works by the 30 artists who have exhibited there in the last 15 years.

The 7th edition of Westway LAB will host nine concerts, with names like Ian, Miramar and The Legendary Tigerman.

The 29th edition of Guimarães Jazz will feature Portuguese musicians and backgrounds, including the Guimarães Orchestra, and foreign musicians who are living in Portugal.

“Counting on the orchestra, it will involve more than 100 Portuguese musicians”, said Ivo Martins, responsible for programming.
