Karlsruhe: The state has approved around 70 million euros in funding for the expansion of the digital infrastructure in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district. This means that large areas in the Black Forest are supplied with fast internet.
“When we expand our digital infrastructure, we reach the top – the Feldberg. With 68.9 million euros for 23 broadband projects of the Zweckverband Broadband Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, we are bringing the fast internet to the Black Forest valleys and also to the summit of our country, ”said Minister of Digitization Thomas Strobl when handing over the broadband funding notices to the Broadband Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald Zweckverband. The handover took place again as a video conference.
68.9 million euros for 23 broadband projects in the Black Forest
The Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald uses the co-financing for federal funding, whereby 90 percent of the expansion costs are funded. The federal government takes over 50 percent, the state puts another 40 percent on top. In total, 182 million euros (federal and state funds, as well as the municipal share of ten percent) will be invested in the broadband expansion and thus large areas in the Black Forest will be supplied with fast internet.
Minister of Digitization Thomas Strobl said: “The highest broadband connections in Baden-Württemberg are being implemented on Feldberg. The local weather station, the youth hostel and other mountain huts as well as the winter sports businesses are provided with fast internet. Among other things, this is important for tourism in this region. When the cables are laid and the connections are made, all schools in the highest areas of the country will be connected to the broadband network – as will 1,500 Black Forest courtyards. The Corona period shows just how important it is to create opportunities for home offices in rural areas too. Agricultural direct marketers are also being strengthened in the municipalities, which are increasingly offering their goods on the Internet. ”
