Whirl around wedding with 7,000 people in New York

The organizers tried everything to keep the celebration a secret. There were no written invitations. It was all about word of mouth. Now the synagogue is threatened with closure.

The pictures are incredible. Thousands of people stand close together in the rows, singing and jumping up and down. In the middle of the room is a bride all in white. There is no trace of distance or even masks here – and that in the middle of the city of New York, which has been hard hit by the Corona crisis.

7,000 people are said to have attended the mega-wedding of ultra-Orthodox Jews in the Satmar Synagogue in Williamsburg. The video is currently causing a stir in the United States. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was shocked, calling the event, which was organized behind the back of the city, a “blatant disregard for the law” and “disrespect for the people of New York”.

It was about the wedding of Yoel Teitelbaum, grandson of the Grand Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum. The hosts went to great lengths to keep the mega-event secret from the authorities. As the “New York Post” reports, the organizers should not have sent out any written invitations. Everything was done through word of mouth.

The mega-festival took place on November 8th, now videos of the scandalous event appeared. Teitelbaum now not only has to pay a $ 15,000 fine, but the synagogue is even threatened with closure if it is violated again, according to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. “We don’t want to do that, but we have to make it clear that we cannot allow people to do something so dangerous,” said de Blasio.

In mid-October, the city banned a planned Jewish-Orthodox mega-wedding with 10,000 guests.
