These countries received stricter (orange) travel advice last week | NOW

Last week, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tightened the travel advice for various countries to code orange, which stands for ‘only necessary travel’. NU.nl lists these adjustments.

Norway

Norway announced on Wednesday that travelers from the Netherlands must be in home quarantine from 15 August for a period of ten days. This is due to the increasing number of infections in the Netherlands.

Because traveling to Norway will have consequences from now on, the travel advice has been adjusted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the color code orange. However, Dutch people who return to the Netherlands from Norway do not need to go into home quarantine.

Malta

Travel advice for Malta has been tightened last week due to the rapidly increasing number of corona infections in the country. After their return from Malta, the Dutch are urged to go into home quarantine for a fortnight.

Malta introduced new measures last week due to the increase in the number of new infections.

United Kingdom

Travelers from the Netherlands have to self-quarantine for two weeks upon arrival in the United Kingdom from 15 August, the British Transport Minister Grant Shapps announced on Thursday evening. According to Shapps, the measure is necessary to prevent the number of corona infections in the United Kingdom from rising again.

As with Norway, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has chosen to change the travel advice for the United Kingdom to color code orange. When returning to the Netherlands, travelers do not have to go into self-quarantine, because the number of infections in the United Kingdom is relatively low at the moment.

Regions in Spain

The Greater Barcelona region has been orange on the ministry’s map since the end of July, but due to the increase in the number of coronavirus infections, the entire province of Barcelona in the autonomous region of Catalonia has also been colored orange since this week.

The provinces of Leride, Huesca, Zaragoza and Teruel (in the autonomous region of Aragón) and the province of Soria (in the region of Castile and León) have also tightened travel advice since this week.

Estonia

As of August 10, Estonia has imposed travel restrictions for travelers arriving from the Netherlands, so the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also adjusted the travel advice for Dutch citizens.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is no increased risk of an increase in corona infections from Estonia for the Netherlands, so travelers from Estonia are not obliged to go into home quarantine.

Aruba

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has tightened travel advice for Aruba due to a sharp rise in corona figures. For the time being, it is recommended to only travel if there is really no other option.

Aruba is the fourth island in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to which code orange applies. Travel to St. Maarten, St. Eustatius and Saba was previously discouraged, although the travel advice for the latter two islands has been announced due to the very strict corona measures that apply locally.

Lithuania

From Monday 17 August, travelers from the Netherlands will be refused entry to Lithuania due to the increased number of infections in our country. That is why the advice for this country is from now on ‘travel only if necessary’.

Foreigners with a residence permit or a work permit for Lithuania are admitted, but must go into compulsory home quarantine for fourteen days. People traveling from Lithuania to the Netherlands do not need to go into home quarantine.

Finland

Finland has re-imposed travel restrictions for travelers from the Netherlands on 10 August, which has also changed the travel advice for Dutch people to orange.

Finland only allows demonstrably necessary (work) traffic and strict home insulation applies for two weeks. As with most countries with an orange color code, Dutch people traveling from Finland do not have to go into home quarantine.
