These are the corona rules in Europa-Park

Founder worries about his life’s work

The number of visitors to Europa-Park was limited. So that visitors can keep their distance, the Europapark has introduced further measures.

  • Europa-Park opens again at the end of May.
  • However, mask requirements and distance rules apply.
  • New systems were introduced.
  • Europa-Park loses a lot of money every day.

Europa-Park opens its doors again on Friday. However, it will not be as it was before the Corona pandemic. If you want to go to the park, you have to buy a ticket online beforehand. The number of online tickets is limited so that there are not too many people in the park at the same time. The founder of Europa-Park Roland Mack hopes for 10,000 visitors a day. For comparison: On peak days, up to 50,000 guests otherwise stroll through Mini-Europe.

On the site, visitors must adhere to the distance rules. Masks are mandatory for attractions and in closed rooms. Every second seat is left empty on the roller coasters. In order to keep the queues at the attractions as low as possible, visitors can queue using a virtual app and come at a certain point in time. As the “Handelsblatt»Writes, there is also a second app that is supposed to playfully encourage people to keep their distance from other visitors.

“What we have built up over the years is melting between our fingers.”

Not all attractions open again on Friday. The show and cinema program cannot start yet. Visitors who like to watch the colorful shows have to be patient. The Rulantica water world will remain closed for the time being. The water world was only opened in November. Now Mack and Co. are waiting for signals from the government.

Mack hopes that the protective measures will work and that the number of visitors can increase. The 70-year-old: “We are slowly approaching it and hope that with the protective measures we can quickly increase the number of visitors by a few thousand. If everything goes right.” Europa-Park is currently losing a lot of money. Mack: “What we have built up over the years fades between our fingers.” The park currently lives from the savings made. All investments were stopped immediately. Nevertheless: Electricity costs alone are around 10,000 euros a day – without even a guest. The 70-year-old is worried about his life’s work. In the meantime, 100 million euros in sales are missing.

Operators from China to California are now looking at Europa-Park. Like the Bundesliga, Europa-Park is a pioneer of amusement parks in the Corona crisis. A good sign for the park: When bookings started last week, over 2 million tickets were requested.
