The film culminates in the moments that the two spend together in those two days before their breakup, the feelings that are boiling inside and finally the decision to reunite. The director intends the title “4 years” to be a decision they will make in their life after, rather than the BTech period which is actually “4 years” long.

Priya Warrier and Sarjano Khalid are the protagonists. Priya Varrier gives a great performance as the love, breakup, longing and caring girlfriend. Priya’s bold performance can also be seen in some of the challenging scenes of the film, even as she grows into a mature young woman in her demeanor and character. Sarjano Khalid has become a promising actor with his latest films. Sarjano secures the tough lover who is the complete opposite of the role of the light lover in ‘June’. Most of the scenes in the two hour movie focus on these two. Audiences can also experience the chemistry between the two.

The film presents the humiliation of failing a course you dislike while having artistic aptitudes and the pain of being left alone with the burden of supplies when your classmates are about to leave for new pastures in a way that many young of Kerala can relate.

The film is produced by Ranjith Shankar and Jayasuriya under the banner of Dreams and Beyond. This is truly a director’s film. There are some similarities between heart and 4 years old. One of them is the director’s emotional attachment to the film. While Vineeth shot ‘Hridayam’ at his college education, Ranjith Shankar shot ‘4 Years’ at MACE College, Kothamangalam where he studied engineering. Then there is the importance given to the songs and the background score. There are eight songs in the film where the music is very important. Each one is a love song that makes the heart rain. The plot of the film also develops to the accompaniment of songs. Shankar Sharma’s music is the strong point of the film.

The technical aspect is also excellent, the film is full of excellent frames. It is clear that the director took care to accurately capture all the special places in the college where he studied.

In short, this movie encourages you to take a mental trip to the colleges you graduated from, good and bad memories, friendships and loves. Undoubtedly, the theater is a must see.
