Affects large number of users

Facebook and Instagram have major technical problems. Users are notified that the session has expired and that they should therefore log in again. But it does not work.
Users of Facebook and Instagram report being logged out and then unable to log back in. Even though the correct password is used. According to the site Downdetector, the problem affects a large number of users, several hundred thousand, and Mobil themselves have been able to reproduce the problem on several different Swedish accounts. It is thus a widespread problem.
Facebook is aware of the issues and is working to resolve them
In a statement on the competing platform X (formerly Twitter) Meta communications director Andy Stone said half an hour after the bugs were discovered that they are aware of the problems users are having accessing the services and are working to resolve this. At 17.40, Mobil can state that the login is working again and that the problem thus appears to have been fixed. On the Metastatus site, you can follow the status of Meta’s services and where reports are made at the time of writing that services are back up and that the issue is resolved.
The problems concern Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and Threads and it concerns the services as a whole, which therefore applies to apps as well as via the computer and web browser. According to the site, the problems are also geographically spread over a large number of countries.
Meta, which is behind the services Facebook and Instagram, has not yet released any announcement about the cause, but we can state that Whatsapp, which also comes from Meta, does not seem to have suffered any problems.
The problems for Facebook and Instagram started around 4.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.
