Next to Tamkang University in New Taipei City, there is a mahjong and chess club that has been in operation for more than five months, attracting college students to come and go for consumption. The police broke into the house yesterday with a ticket and arrested the 27-year-old person in charge surnamed Wang and 31 male and female gamblers, 12 of whom were college students. The whole case was transferred to the investigation office for punishment. The Zhongshan Road Police Station of the Tamsui Police Branch of the New Taipei City Government received a report a few days ago that there is a mahjong and chess club that has been operating for more than 5 months next to Tamkang University and on Xuefu Road within its jurisdiction, suspected of secretly engaging in illegal gambling.
According to the police investigation, the chess and card club deliberately used point cards as bargaining chips, and then exchanged point cards for cash to avoid detection. After several days of evidence collection, they raided with search tickets at about 1 am on the 5th, and seized 31 male and female gamblers, aged between 19 and 58, who were gambling on the mahjong table. It’s illegal, and some people think it doesn’t matter.
The police seized 16 pairs of mahjong, 28 card rulers, 8 electric mahjong tables, account books, cash registers, monitor hosts, lenses, chip cards with a denomination of more than 2.5 million yuan, and more than NT$20,000 in gambling money. Bring the person in charge surnamed Wang and all the gamblers back to Tamsui Police Station for interrogation.
After the police inquiry, the person in charge surnamed Wang was transferred to the Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office for investigation under the crime of gambling in accordance with the criminal law, and the 31 gamblers were punished for violating the social order maintenance law.
The Tamsui Police Department stated that professional casinos are prone to various types of violent crimes, which seriously affect social security. Therefore, they continue to deploy the “Qingyuan Project 2.0” and “Community Policing Restart” work plans, and strengthen unscheduled inspections. If illegal activities are found , will be immediately investigated and brought to the case according to law.
