There is a unicorn from Čuprov Rohlík. He received another 100 million euros from investors

“The new investment shows our investors’ confidence in the group’s rapid growth. We are now perceived as a European company that is able to expand rapidly in the very demanding Western European markets. The newly acquired funding helps us accelerate even faster than we originally intended. Especially in the area of entering new markets and automation. Overall, we can accelerate the pace of innovation, including the recruitment of great talent, “says Tomáš Čupr, founder and head of the Rohlik Group.

The US-British fund Index Ventures, which participated in the previous investment round in March this year, was the main contributor to the new financing. Other co-owners of Rohlík also took part in it. These include the French fund Quadrille Capital, the domestic J&T Banka, the Czech investment company Enern or the so-called family office R2G. He manages the money of the founders of the antivirus Avast, Eduard Kučera and Pavel Baudiš, or Oldřich Šlemr, the former co-owner of the Czech Rubber Company.

“Rohlík, which is already profitable in its largest market, is experiencing strong growth in new regions and is achieving better results in all indicators. Its unique model, which combines comfort with a complete range of products, from basic goods to high-quality local products, is proving to be a winning recipe, “comments Jan Hammer, Index Ventures partner.

According to the group, the interest of investors is mainly related to ambitious expansion plans. After the Rohlik Group has successfully expanded to Hungary and Austria, it will start operating in Munich in July and in Frankfurt in November. “These obtained funds should be enough for us for a relatively long time. The Czechia generates a profit for us. The contribution of the Czech Rohlík to the whole group should be around 40 million euros this year. If Hungary starts to contribute more, we may have up to 50 million euros from existing business alone. This will pay for the whole of Austria and a large part of the entry into Germany, “said Čupr in a large interview for the July magazine E15.

Expansion to other European countries will follow quickly, as early as next year. This reflects, among other things, the trend of an accelerating transition to consumer food purchases online. The croissant will spread to Romania, Italy, France and Spain in the near future, with the sole aim of becoming a leading European player.

“The new investment helps us continue to innovate and develop new technological tools that will accelerate the development of the food industry and bring about the digital revolution. The goal is to further expand the choice for our customers and provide them with the food they love. This is possible thanks to the supply of fresh food from local farmers and craftsmen in the quality that the customer imagines and expects, “adds Tomáš Čupr.

Čupr raised five billion for the further expansion of Rohlík, the company is going to Germany

Already in the spring, the online retailer received 190 million euros (about five billion crowns) from investors. The company said that its finances would help it expand faster in existing markets, for the planned entry into Germany, but also for continued investment in technology and service improvement.

The Rohlik online supermarket is part of the Velká pecka company, in which the majority share is owned by the entrepreneur Tomáš Čupr. The group was founded in 2014, last year its revenues exceeded 300 million euros, ie over 7.8 billion crowns. The year before, he earned “only” 4.2 billion crowns. Currently, the e-shop already has 750,000 customers in three European markets.
