Arsenal indeed not a title this season. However, there are two players who can smile because they get the league champions, they are Thomas Partey and Lucas Torreira.
Arsenal’s last chance to win a trophy vanished when they were eliminated by Villarreal in the semi-finals of the Europa League a few weeks ago. Now Arsenal only hope to finish in the top seven of the Premier League tonight so they can advance to the same competition next season.
This is a decrease in achievement compared to last season, which won the FA Cup and Community Shield. However, there is still some excitement for the two Arsenal players this season.
They are Thomas Partey and Lucas Torreira who were splashed by Atletico Madrid’s success in winning the Spanish League. Yes, Thomas is a former Atletico player who was sold to Arsenal at the end of the transfer market, shortly after Torreira was loaned to the Spanish club.
Thomas apparently played three times in the first week of the Spanish League, facing Granada (27/9), Huesca (30/9), and Villarreal (3/10). Two of them played the full 90 minutes.
Unlike the Premier League rules which require players to play a minimum of five matches to get a champion medal, the rules in LaLiga allow players to be considered league champions if they play at least one match.
“Yes, Thomas Partey is a LaLiga champion. He has played three times for Atletico this season, two as a starter. There are no medals in LaLiga, but he is officially a champion,” said Spanish football expert Guillem Balague as quoted by AFP. My Joy Online.
Thomas Partey who bought Atletico in 2011 played 188 times and scored 16 goals. At Arsenal, Thomas has not scored a single goal in 32 appearances.
Lucas Torreira also won the Spanish league championship medal even though he rarely played this season. The Uruguayan midfielder appeared 26 times with one goal notched.
