JAKARTA Sports regularly recommended to improve heart health and reduced risk of heart attack. However, there are types of exercise that can improve risk of heart attack .

There is growing evidence that extreme volume and intensity of long-term activity can increase the risk of acute cardiac events.

Studies have found potential risk factors for future cardiovascular events, given the known association between excessive activity and increased cardiovascular risk.

In a study published in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, extreme exercise on cardiovascular health implications was further analyzed.

“High-intensity exercise can acutely, albeit temporarily, increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) or sudden cardiac death (SCD) in individuals with underlying heart disease,” the study said.

A Canadian study of athletic participants aged 12 to 45 found 74 cases with SCA over a follow-up of 18.5 million people per year, resulting in an incidence of 0.76 cases per 100,000 athletes per year.

“A total of 16 cases of SCA occurred in competitive sports of which 44% survived, while 58 cases occurred in non-competitive sports of which 44% also survived,” said the study.

In addition, studies have found evidence that high-intensity exercise can also increase the risk of heart rhythm disturbances, especially for minorities who have hypertrophic cardiomyopathy or coronary heart disease.
