The world of football is in mourning: Franz Bechkembauer passed away

The world of football once again receives a hard blow as it sees the great legends slowly leaving. On this occasion, the death of the former German soccer player and coach Franz Beckembauer is mourned, who had been going through serious health problems until he died at the age of 78.

The news was announced by the Kaiser’s family through a statement in which, in addition to mourning his death, they thanked those who began to send their messages of solidarity in the face of the sensitive loss of one of the icons of world football.

Beckembauer is known worldwide thanks to the legacy he wrote in gold letters in the German team, which he led to become champion of the 1974 World Cup, which took place on German soil, and which had the ‘Kaiser’ as one of the greatest team leaders and captain. Likewise, in 1990 he once again entered the history of the World Cup after becoming the second person to win the highest trophy as a player and then as a coach, since that year he led the ‘Teuton’ team that became champion, defeating Argentina in Maradona.

In that same 1990 World Championship, Germany shared a group with the Colombian team and they faced each other in the remembered 1-1 draw with Freddy Rincón’s goal in the last minute.

As a player he also had a brilliant career at Bayern Munchen, winning the European Cup (Champions League) four times, in addition to being European champion, runner-up in the same competition and runner-up in the World Cup held in 1966.
