The world is horrified by Iran’s hypersonic missiles

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia On Thursday (10/11/2022) the United Nations (UN) nuclear watchdog expressed concern after Iran claimed it had developed a super hypersonic missile capable of penetrating any country’s defense systems.

“All these announcements are intended to raise attention, raise awareness and raise public attention to the Iranian nuclear program,” said the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, quoted by Arab newsFriday (11/11/2022).

The hypersonic missile can deliver nuclear weapons in the same way as traditional ballistic missiles. The difference is that these hypersonic missiles can fly at five times the speed of sound and are so maneuverable that they are impossible to track and defend.

Unlike ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles fly at low trajectories in the atmosphere and are said to be able to hit targets faster.

“The new Iranian hypersonic missile was developed to counter air defense shields,” said the commander of the aerospace unit of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, General Amirali Hajizadeh.

“It will be able to penetrate all missile defense systems. It will take decades before a system capable of intercepting it is developed,” he continued.

Many weapons analysts believe Hajizadeh’s claims. A number of countries have developed systems designed to defend against ballistic and cruise missiles, but the ability to track and release hypersonic missiles remains elusive.

Iran’s claim to have developed such a missile raises questions about where Tehran got the technology. North Korea’s hypersonic missile test last year sparked concerns about a race to acquire the technology, currently led by Russia, followed by China and the United States.

Iran and Russia are both subject to severe international sanctions and have responded by increasing cooperation in key areas to help support their economies.

Iran’s claims about hypersonic missiles follow last week’s successful test flight of a rocket capable of propelling a satellite into space. The United States has repeatedly expressed concern that the launch could improve Iran’s ballistic missile technology and expand the potential for delivering nuclear warheads.

In March, the US government imposed sanctions on Iran’s missile activities. Meanwhile, the UN atomic watchdog said it saw no progress in discussions with Tehran regarding the uranium particles found at the three research sites. Iran accepted a visit from the agency’s inspector this month to provide answers.

“The agency reiterated to Iran that at this meeting it expects to start receiving credible technical explanations from Iran on this topic, including access to sites and materials, as well as appropriate sampling,” the agency said in a relationship.
