The Weeknd hints at name change: “Maybe I’ll do a ‘Ye’-ke” | Music

If it is up to the Canadian singer/songwriter, he will continue under his own name ABEL. The Weeknd’s real name is Abel Tesfaye. The Weeknd would actually be the title of his first mixtape from 2011, he told Reddit a few years ago in an ‘Ask Me Anything’ session. “I hated my name at the time, so I tried The Weeknd as a stage name,” he explained. “It sounded cool. I took the ‘e’ out because there was already a Canadian band called The Weekend.” The mixtape was eventually named ‘House of Balloons’.

After tweeting about the possible name change, he posted a tweet trying out his new name: “ABEL used to be known as The Weeknd?” Singer/songwriter John Legend was one of the first to respond. He replied that ABEL is ‘dope’. “I’m tempted,” The Weeknd wrote in response.
