The wave of COVID-19 in Bulgaria and mortality went up – Topics in development

V There is already a clear trend of a new increase in mortality in Bulgaria, which reached record levels last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is not yet clear to what extent the increase in deaths in 2020 is due to unreported cases of coronavirus infection or difficult access to hospital care in the midst of the second wave of the pandemic.

Kantardzhiev doubted the number of new cases of COVID-19

The latest NSI data on mortality in Bulgaria in 2021 are for the 36th week, which ends on September 12. The total number of deaths was 2,572, or 32% more than last year.

Moreover, this is the third consecutive week of rising deaths in the country and the ninth in a row in which mortality is higher than last year.

The officially registered deaths from COVID-19 in the hospitals in Bulgaria for the 36th week of the year are 407. They are 23 more than in the previous seven days. At the same time, the total number of deaths in the country increased on a weekly basis by 176.

A record number of people infected with COVID-19 in recent months

However, so far it is much lower than the levels reached in the midst of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in late November and early December last year, when the country’s death toll exceeded 4,700 deaths a week.
