The virus threatens the Sea Festival: change is urgently needed

The main strokes of the Sea Festival events were presented a few weeks ago.

The prime minister asked for exceptions

It turned out that, as before the pandemic, a fair will take place here again, huge concerts will be organized at the Cruise Ship Terminal, Theater Square. Performances by Marijonas Mikutavičius, Kastytis Kerbedis, the groups The Roop, Sisters on Wire are planned.

After the abolition of quarantine in the country, but leaving restrictions on events, Klaipėda City Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas appealed to the Government for certain reservations for the largest summer celebration in the port city.

Attention was then drawn to the rather optimistic COVID-19 statistics in the city.

But over time, the situation has changed. Up to several new cases of coronavirus infection are detected daily. 100 thousand population, there are already over 100 cases in the last 14 days.

Liutauras Galinis, the head of the public institution Klaipėdos šventės, which organizes the Sea Festival, stated that there were meetings on the festival on Monday. “We will prepare a report and distribute it. There will be detailed information about flow management and the holiday itself, ”sighed the holiday organizer.

According to him, there was also a meeting with the staff of the National Center for Public Health to discuss what the celebration should be like.

“I asked what affects the growth of diseases when there are no mass events. I haven’t received an answer yet, “L. Galinis replied briefly 15min.

The Prime Minister called for security

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė visited Klaipėda this weekend assured that he understood the importance of this celebration for the coastal population, but called for security. On Saturday, the Prime Minister also met with Klaipėda Mayor Vytautas Grubliauskas.

“The organizers of the festival must also understand that despite the fact that the events take place outdoors, there is still a lot of mass, many people pose some additional risks, especially in the Klaipeda region, where, unfortunately, the epidemiological situation is worse than in many other municipalities.” confirmed I. Šimonytė to journalists.

The start of the sea festival is scheduled for Friday, with the opening of the traditional fair.

Encourages travel to nature

Raimundas Grigaliūnas, the head of the Klaipėda department of the National Center for Public Health, urged the guests of the festival to be very responsible, and in general invited to consider whether it would not be better to spend the weekend in nature, as there will still be holidays and fairs.

“We really ask for people’s awareness, there will still be those celebrations and fairs, concerts. You need to think, maybe it is better to spend time in nature, in the homestead, by the sea. Is it really better to be in the hustle and bustle, there are different needs and desires, but you need to think as the epidemiological situation grows. In Klaipeda, the indicator reaches 109 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants, mutations, delta cases, risks are really growing, ”said the manager.

On Monday, together with the city authorities, representatives of the festival, he attended the meeting and made recommendations to the participants and guests of the festival.

“Our recommendations have been made to the organizers, we hope that they will be taken into account. The first thing, of course, here “Klaipėdos šventės” can not affect it, it is more for the public – we urge those who feel the symptoms not to participate, do not go to mass events, because it is one of the potential sources. Those in isolation so as not to come to travel to the fair to see, the same items can be bought after the holiday. They cannot leave the house, the police will check, but they will not stand next to the police, and what is forbidden, the feeling of harm is felt. Those who come from third countries, where the morbidity is not widely publicized, but we really receive 3-4 cases every day, who come from Europe, they must isolate, – said R.Grigaliūnas. – If people will be indoors, they must categorically wear masks. If you take part in mass gathering events like walking, concerts where a lot of people have to wear masks as well. ”

We really ask for people’s awareness, there will still be those celebrations and fairs, concerts. You need to think, maybe it is better to spend time in nature, in the homestead, by the sea.

Don’t stay in one place

Guests and participants are encouraged to change their location. Participants in the procession are encouraged to move to another position every 15 minutes to avoid prolonged contact with the same persons. The same recommendation applies to holiday guests.

The organizers of the festival are obliged to fill the tanks with water so that there is a constant place to wash and disinfect hands.

Traders are required to work with gloves, masks, should have disinfectants.

Last year, the Sea Festival was a success and there were no outbreaks of the disease. Nevertheless, R. Grigaliūnas does not hide the existence of fears.

“There are fears, anxiety that there may be an increase. The epidemiological investigation in this case is not simple and easy, because there are a lot of arrivals, ”said the manager.

According to R.Grigaliūnas, why the number of patients in Klaipėda is growing, it is still difficult to say unequivocally, but the small vaccination statistics and the return to mass work in offices also contribute to this.
