The Vierzon hospital will finance the studies of future nursing staff in exchange for a four-year service obligation at the end of the training

“I know what I’m going to do after my studies, I know why I’m studying. It becomes more concrete because I know that I have an establishment, behind, which expects results. It motivates even more. »

Marine Martin, 20, is reassured. Currently in her first year at the Training Institute for Medical Electroradiology Technicians (Ifmem) in Poitiers (Vienne), an establishment attached to the city’s university hospital center, the young woman knows that at the end of her three years of studies, she will be hired at the Vierzon hospital.

Indeed, at the beginning of this year, she signed a pre-recruitment contract with the Vierzon establishment. The hospital pays her a monthly allowance, accompanies her during her training and, in return, the student undertakes to work in Vierzon at the end of her studies, for a minimum of four years, but also to carry out all the possible internships and to work there for a month during the summer holidays.

An allowance of 1,528 euros gross monthly

Marine Martin chose Vierzon for its geographical position, near her native Maine-et-Loire, for its human size, in the countryside and at the same time close to larger cities. But it is also, and above all, the allowance of 1,528 euros gross monthly which motivated his choice. “The scholarship weighed in the balance,” she says. Until then, I was with my savings. Now, it allows me to be financially independent and to avoid my parents having to provide for me. It is exceptional in the first year. Everyone is a winner in this device. »

“It allows you to anticipate the future,” says Fabrice Laurain, acting director of the Vierzon hospital center, even if “the pre-recruitment system is a medium-term solution. The device existed in Vierzon, at one time, but was not maintained. We reset it. That doesn’t meet the whole recruitment objective. But with Cyril Lenne (former director, left on March 1, editor’s note) and health manager Anne-Marie Roche, we said to ourselves: what can we do to loosen up some situations? We presented the device internally and we worked with the health management. »

“The idea is to have a transfer window between public and private on professions with difficult recruitment: nurses, radio operators, masseurs-physiotherapists, midwives. We need something on which we can be attractive, ”says the interim director.

The hospital center thus contacted training establishments in France, activated its networks, made contact with associations of former students who announced the color directly. “We give them the certainty of being hired and of having visibility for at least four years. It is also a tutoring during
training”, explains Fabrice Laurain.

“We wanted to hit hard”

But the decisive element is above all financial with a high allocation from the first year. “We wanted to hit hard. On the very few professions of manipulation and masseurs-physiotherapists in training, we are on 1,528 euros gross monthly for the school year and on a normal salary during the month of work in the summer. But this amount is for the first year. It will increase in the second year and again in the third. Over this last year, we will be close to 1,800 euros gross. For students, it is quite decisive. This gives them real autonomy, peace of mind, ”explains the interim director.

The Vierzon hospital hit hard to seduce radio and physiotherapy students, because “we are competitors with each other and we are in great difficulty. We have a significant vacancy rate. Among physiotherapists, it is more than 50%”, specifies the management, which also offers pre-recruitment contracts to nursing students with a monthly allowance of 550 euros. “And we are in negotiations to do so with some fourth and fifth year midwifery students,” adds Fabrice Laurain.

Five contracts already signed

Since the end of 2021, the establishment has signed five pre-recruitment contracts with two student radio technicians, two massage therapists and a student nurse. “We are still ready to pre-recruit. Next year, at the radio manipulation, we would like to take on a first-year student. The number is not infinite, it depends on our positions and our retirement projections. »

For this device, the management of the hospital has budgeted the sum of 180,000 euros with a total objective of ten contracts (two masseurs, two manip, four nurses and two midwives. “We asked for the marking of credits of the Segur de la santé for Vierzon on this device, ”concludes Fabrice Laurain.
