WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump’s administration is preparing to sell drone advanced and precision weapons United States of America (US) valued at USD1 billion (Rp.14.1 trillion) to the Kingdom of Morocco. The move was taken by Washington after the kingdom made peace or normalized relations with Israel.

The Trump administration has sent a notification to Congress about the arms sales option. A source with knowledge of the notification has confirmed to Reuters, which was launched on Saturday (12/12/2020).

According to the source, the sales deals that the US will offer include four drone MQ-9B SeaGuardian made by General Atomics and Hellfire, Paveway and JDAM precision ammunition by Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Boeing.

Reuters first reported on Thursday that Washington was negotiating a sale and would immediately notify Congress. (Read: The number of Muslims in Israel is increasing, this is the reason )

News of the deal came as the White House announced a US-brokered agreement to normalize relations between Morocco and Israel.

Earlier this year the US offered to sell F-35 stealth fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after the Arab country normalized relations with Israel.

Congress is notified of major international arms deals and given the opportunity to review them before they are approved. Under US arms export laws, members of Congress can try to block the sale by offering a disapproval resolution, but the source said there was no problem in the case of arms sales to Morocco.

The deal with Morocco will be one of sale drone first after the Trump administration moved forward with plans to sell more drone to more countries by reinterpreting an international arms control treaty called the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR).

Sales drone this fall continues to Taiwan and the United Arab Emirates. Attempts to block sales to the UAE failed in the US Senate last Wednesday.
