WASHINGTON – A male player game online (gamer) of United States of America (The US) drove a total of 3,355 miles (about 5,399 kilometers) to kill a teenager over a dispute game. He then shot himself after returning home or when the police came to arrest him.

The 23-year-old suspect was found dead from a gunshot wound when police moved to arrest him in connection with the alleged murder of 18-year-old Matthew Thane.

Thane was shot dead at around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday at his home in Texas, USA.

Local media quoted news.com.au, Sunday (23/8/2020), reported that the following evening, SWAT police came to a home in Pleasanton, California — 1,677.5 miles away from Thane’s residence in Flower Mound. (Read: Her boyfriend’s husband suddenly came home, this naked man jumped from the 2nd floor)

But when they got home at around 11:00 p.m., police officers found the suspect dead inside.

Evidence found on the cell phone suggests the suspect is linked to teen homicide in Texas.

A police officer told Mercury News that the suspect, wearing a helmet and jeans, set fire to the propane tank outside Thane’s house on Flower Mound to lure him out before shooting him.

According to police, a search of his home found evidence linking him to the murder.

Flower Mound police captain, Shane Jennings, said officials were investigating whether the murder was linked to a dispute game online or other issues.

Cellphone data shows he traveled to Texas and returned — totaling about 3,355 miles — in 72 hours.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for the bereaved Thane family.

The fundraising page, which has raised over $ 21,000 so far, reads; “Matthew never fails to make someone smile and brighten up their day.”

“He is a very unique character, unique. Let’s get together and support his family in times of need,” continued the statement on the GoFundMe page. (Also read: Not wearing a mask, Osama bin Laden’s sniper is prohibited from riding Delta Air Lines)

Nearly 400 people have so far contributed to the page, including one of Thane’s teachers, who said; “I remember he had the sweetest smile and he was a great person.”

“My heart is broken for his family and friends and for their unimaginable loss. Prayers and love for all of you,” said teacher Thane, who was not identified.

The suspect’s identity and official cause of death will be confirmed after the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau releases it.
