the Unsa Customs union expresses its “pain” and its “anger”

Unsa Customs expressed this Monday its “deep pain” and its “anger” after the death of a customs officer the same morning during a customs intervention in Toulon.

“The Unsa Douanes union expresses its deep sorrow following the death of one of its own, and the injury of a second customs officer and a police officer during a customs operation linked to arms trafficking in Toulon”declares the union in a press release.

“After the death of our two colleagues in Paris on November 13, it is too much (…) But today, it is anger that predominates because only the price of blood seems to be able to generate the awakening of consciences “adds the union, which denounces the lack of “human and material resources” of Customs.
“How can the DGDDI (General Directorate of Customs and Indirect Duties) justify the escheat in which this non-priority sovereign administration finds itself today until November 13, 2015? (…) This time, certainly, the question asked will have to receive an answer that we wish human, political and proportional to the seriousness and the pain”, concludes the union.

The Finance Federation FO said for its part that it associated itself with “the mourning which once again strikes the customs community”.
“This drama is a reminder, if need be, of the risks incurred by customs officers in the surveillance branch in the exercise of their missions, and not only since November 13,” the union said in a press release.

“The Federation of Finance FO demands in this context that the ministerial authorities do everything possible without delay to ensure the protection and security of the agents, by providing the most modern and efficient means”adds the union.

A customs officer was killed Monday morning, another injured as well as a policeman, during a customs intervention in the district of Saint-Jean-du-Var,
in Toulon, by a man who opened fire before being arrested. The 33-year-old shooter was taken into custody.
