The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced today that a preliminary investigation has been launched into the signals of some Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibuses – model 2019, configured as courier cars for Amazon and as ambulances. The reason is that they set off on their own after their final parking, Reuters reported.
The management received 11 messages about the problem that arose after the “automatic parking” function was performed.
Data on eight accidents and one injury related to the Sprinter 2500/3500/4500 vans have been submitted, BTA adds.
Authorities did not disclose the total number of vehicles under investigation.
The Mercedes-Benz Cars & Vans subsidiary said in an email that it maintained close contact with the road safety service and would continue to cooperate fully with the investigation.
