The United States accumulates 527,612 deaths and 29,092,305 infections due to covid-19

Washington, Mar 9 (EFE) .- The United States reached 29,092,305 confirmed cases of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus on Tuesday and 527,612 deaths from the covid-19 disease, according to the independent count from Johns Hopkins University.

This balance at 20.00 local time (01.00 GMT on Wednesday) is 1,884 more deaths than on Monday and 51,075 new infections.

California is now the state hit hardest by the pandemic with 54,557 deaths, followed by New York (48,476), Texas (45,582), Florida (31,889), Pennsylvania (24,388), New Jersey (23,635) and Illinois (23,040).

Other states with a large number of deaths are Georgia (17,978), Ohio (17,661), Michigan (16,692), Massachusetts (16,456) or Arizona (16,326).

In terms of infections, California has 3,606,248, followed by Texas with 2,704,428, third is Florida with 1,952,733, New York is fourth with 1,706,924 and Illinois is fifth with 1,200,938.

The provisional death toll -527,612- far exceeds the lower limit of the initial estimates of the White House, which in the days of Donald Trump projected in the best of cases between 100,000 and 240,000 deaths due to the pandemic.

The new president of the United States, Joe Biden, has predicted that in total more than 600,000 people in the country will die from the virus.

For its part, the Institute for Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) of the University of Washington, whose models for predicting the evolution of the pandemic are often set by the White House, estimates that by June 1, some will have died. 575,000 people.
