The United Kingdom adds just over 5,000 new infections and registers about 65 deaths due to COVID-19

The United Kingdom has added 5,089 new COVID-19 infections and 64 deaths due to the disease in the last 24 hours on Monday, according to the latest data provided by the British Ministry of Health.

With these figures, the UK totals have risen to 4,263,527 infected people and 125,580 fatalities. In parallel, the British health authorities have detailed that 531 people have required hospital admission for the disease this Monday.

So far, 8,029 people remain hospitalized in the UK due to COVID-19, of which 1,110 require mechanical respiration.

Meanwhile, regarding the advance of vaccination in the European country, the health portfolio has transferred that more than 24.4 million people have been inoculated with the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, while more than 1.6 millions have also received the second.

During the day, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson defended the drug developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford, after Germany, France and Italy interrupted its administration due to concerns about its possible side effects.

Johnson has maintained that the British regulatory agency has seen “no reason to interrupt” the administration of the drug and has stressed that the entity is one of the “most experienced” in the world, reports the newspaper ‘The Guardian’.
