the unemployment rate remained stable in …

On February 29, the canton of Neuchâtel registered 5,435 job seekers and 3,674 unemployed, 30 more than last month. “The cantonal unemployment rate remains stable at 3.9%,” said the State Chancellery this morning in a statement. In January, Neuchâtel had already registered a further increase in the number of unemployed, which had increased its unemployment rate by 0.2 point. This has been increasing since November 2019.

Among the business sectors affected, public administration is the one that is doing the best (-10 people), unlike the watchmaking sector which posted an increase (+26).

Increase in younger children

Among the 3,674 unemployed in the canton, more than half stopped their training after obtaining the maturity or CFC. People with a university degree are, on the contrary, the least affected. The 15-24 and over 50 age groups show a slight increase, while the 25-49 years see, on the contrary, their number decrease.

1,676 unemployed people are foreigners, compared to 1998 of Swiss nationality. On the other hand, the Swiss experienced a decrease of 17 people, while the foreigners are 37 more.

Switzerland’s unemployment rate down

In French-speaking Switzerland, a decrease of 0.1 points is observed, as is the case at the national level, which leads to rates of 3.5% and 2.5% respectively. A decline that comes after four months of increases across the country.

In the canton of Jura, 209 jobseekers have registered or re-registered with the Regional Employment Office and 187 files have been closed. This leads to a total of 1433 unemployed people, as well as a stable unemployment rate at 3.9%.

In Biel, the unemployment rate fell by 0.1 point to 4.2%. Almost 2% more than the national rate.
