The Unconventional Heart of the Diesel Škoda Fabia RS: A Popular Used Car in the Czech Republic

For 20 years, there has been a sporty hatchback in the world, which in its time has already impressed with its unconventional heart. The diesel Škoda Fabia RS is a popular used car in the Czech Republic, the qualities of which were once praised by the British magazine Top Gear.

It was the only Škoda Fabia with which you could exceed a speed of 200 kilometers per hour. Škoda Auto from Mladoboleslav ventured into the world of sports cars shortly after the start of the new millennium with the flagship Octavia RS and later followed it up with the top sportier Fabia. The very first Škoda Fabia RS was revealed in 2003 at the Geneva Motor Show, this year it celebrates its 20th anniversary and debuted with a concept that is still unique today.

The Škoda Fabia RS was introduced approximately three and a half years after the initial standard model, and even then it attracted attention with unconventional technology, at least for sports hatchbacks. The Mladoboleslav automobile company has opted for a proven four-cylinder turbodiesel 1.9 TDI-PDthanks to which the minor “heresy” had maximum performance 96 kW (131 hp) from 4,000 rpm. and the highest torque of 310 Nm already from 1,900 rpm.

Combined with an exclusive six-speed manual transmission, this meant a top speed of 206 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. The Škoda Fabia RS was thus the fastest version of the original model and was the only Fabia of the time to exceed the 200 km mark. With the flourishing popularity of tuning, it also became a popular choice for garage owners and professional tuners who were looking for more potential in its engine.

Today it costs up to 175 thousand CZK

It is precisely thanks to the frequent intervention of more or less experienced tuners that today completely original Fabies RS in factory condition are valued rarities. You can buy the cheapest cars on the Czech market for less than tens of thousands, while the price of well-maintained parts can far exceed 100,000 crowns. On the German advertising server mobile.de, we found an example with only 117,200 kilometers of mileage for around 175,000 crowns.

The asking price is high, but the car has a surprisingly low mileage. Most of the original Fabia RS have traveled more than 200,000 kilometers, and cars with an odometer exceeding 400,000 kilometers are not rare. Especially in the Czech Republic, well-preserved cars can be a promising potential investment, for which the right enthusiast will always pay you well.

In the world of sports cars, the diesel Škoda Fabia RS seems like a strange cat, but it is precisely the unusual technology that supports its uniqueness. The British magazine Top Gear once even wrote about it that for its time it combined interesting dynamics with unrivaled fuel consumption.
