BEIRUT – Group Islamic State or ISIS consider what happened in Ukraine are crusaders fighting each other.

The group is calling for its followers to avenge the death of their former leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi, by taking advantage of the Ukraine war moments.

ISIS calls on its followers to launch attacks in Europe.

“We announce, relying on God, a blessed campaign for revenge,” read the ISIS group’s message, referring to al-Qurashi’s death, which was shared on the Telegram app, as quoted AFPMonday (18/4/2022).

The group’s new spokesman, Abu-Omar al-Muhajjir, also called on his supporters to continue attacks in Europe. “Take advantage of the opportunities available to the crusaders who are fighting each other,” he said, referring to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The previous leader of the Islamic State group, Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi, was killed in early February when he blew himself up with a bomb to avoid capture during a US offensive in northwestern Syria. White House and Pentagon officials have confirmed al-Qurashi’s death.

On March 10, the group confirmed the death of Abu Ibrahim al-Qurashi, along with his former spokesman. They then appointed Abu Hasan al-Hashemi al-Qurashi as the new leader.

Little is known about the figure of the new leader, who was the head of all three “jihadist” groups from the start.

After losing their last territory to a military offensive backed by the US-led coalition in March 2019, ISIS remnants in Syria have mostly gone to hideouts in the desert.

They have used the hideout to ambush Kurdish-led forces and Syrian government forces. The “jihadists” also continue to increase attacks in Iraq.
