(Washington = Yonhap News) Correspondent Kim Dong-hyun = The US government is judging flying objects recently shot down in US airspace over Alaska and Canada as balloons, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of the Democratic Party said.

In an interview with ABC News”This Week’ on the 12th (local time), Schumer said that National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan had briefed him the day before.

“The government thinks they are both balloons,” Schumer said, explaining that they are “much smaller” than the Chinese reconnaissance balloon shot down on the East Coast of the United States on the 4th.

The two recently shot down balloons were found at an altitude of 40,000 feet (about 12,000 m) in the airspace of Alaska and Canada, and they were shot down immediately because they could be a danger to commercial aircraft flying at these altitudes, said Schumer.

He said the government had obtained a lot of information by analyzing Chinese balloons.

On the 10th, the US government found a high-altitude object over Alaska and shot it down with a fighter jet, and on the 11th, it also found a flying object in Canadian airspace and was shot down by a US fighter jet.

The U.S. government has yet to announce the nature of the two objects, and will not make a definite statement until the wreckage is analyzed.

A White House National Security Council (NSC) spokesperson responded to Schumer’s remarks by saying, “These objects do not bear much resemblance to Chinese balloons, they are much smaller, and we cannot categorically determine the nature of the objects until we complete the ongoing debris removal.” It will not be defined,” he said.

Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told reporters on the same day that a debris recovery team had arrived at the scene to locate and analyze the object, Reuters reported.
