The Truth Behind Oil and Gas Exploration: Debunking False News in Lebanon

A member of the Political Council of the Free Patriotic Movement, lawyer Wadih Akl, wrote on his account on the “X” platform: “Spreading news about ‘there is no gas in Lebanon’ is a mixture of triviality, bad faith, and spite of fools.”

He continued, “Populism is the opposite of science, while the truth is that oil and gas exploration is a scientific-technical path that starts from studies and surveys, through the drilling of a number of exploratory wells, then evaluation studies, all the way to extraction. The work is led by specialists who have studied and worked for many years in this field.”

Akl pointed out that, “The closest example to what is happening in Lebanon is the Tamar field in Israel, where attempts began in the year 2000 and did not reach a decisive result, until the year 2009, when the discovery of a huge field with a capacity of 10 TCF was confirmed, which is the second largest field in the world.” Palestine at a depth of 4900 meters.

He continued, “The example is repeated in more than one country, including Egypt and the Zohr gas field.”

Akl added, “Beware of false news that does not serve the interest of your country. Beware of the ‘idiots’ who have sat on the thrones of hatred and crime since the war. Beware of the ‘hypocrites’ because they know what they are doing to ‘you’ and the future of your children.”

He concluded, “As a reminder: Since 2010, after Representative Gebran Bassil launched the preparatory and practical work to explore Lebanese gas, the obstructions began systematically and on more than one level.”
