The True Story Behind the Black Hawk in Afghanistan ‘Hangs’ Men

Acceptance

Viral video on social media showing helicopter Black Hawk fly on Afghanistan. It looks like someone is hanging from a rope under the helicopter. Hoax had emerged from the viral video.

The video was viewed more than 2 million times. The narrative that had surfaced, Black Hawk with the man hanging under him was a death execution scene by Taliban against someone.

CNN traced that the video was originally posted by a pro-Taliban Twitter account called the Talib Times — now suspended by Twitter — on Monday morning (30/8) morning. The account claims to be the ‘official English-language channel for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’.

The video was posted with the narration reading: “Our Air Force! At this time, Islamic Emirates Air Force helicopters are flying over the city of Kandahar and patrolling over the city.”

Then an account with the profile name @Holbornloz who calls himself a ‘comedian’ was found to have reposted the video while inaccurately adding a comment that read: “The Taliban hanged someone from a helicopter in Kandahar.”

It is known that a number of Republican politicians in the US, including Senator Ted Cruz and lawmaker Dan Crenshaw of Texas, had retweeted false claims that the Taliban had just executed a man by hanging him from a Black Hawk helicopter.

It turns out that such a narrative is a hoax. When he realized there was a hoax related to the video, Senator Cruz immediately deleted his tweet on Tuesday (31/8) afternoon local time. He admitted in one of his tweets that claims about the Taliban hanging a man from a helicopter ‘may not be accurate’.

Next up, the real story:

  1. You report it’s a hoax, but don’t provide the real story. If you don’t know the real story, then how can you disniss this as a hoax?

Go over there and get the real story; you claim you’re the news.
