The Tripwire boss resigns after abortion games

The head of the publishing studio Tripwire Interactive, John Gibson, has resigned in the wake of strong opposition, both internally in the company and from people in the industry. Instead, co-founder Alan Wilson will take over the leadership role. It reports Tripwire itself on Twitter.

The main reason for the reshuffles in the studio is Gibson’s stated support for the new abortion law in Texas. The law has been widely criticized due to several factors, including that one can not have an abortion after the sixth week, and that incest or rape is not considered a valid reason to have an abortion. Private individuals can also sue people who have broken the law, or helped to break the law. If convicted, you may have to pay $ 10,000 or more to the plaintiff.

According to NRK the law is considered the strictest abortion law in the United States.

In the statement, Tripwire Intreractive distances itself from Gibson’s statements, saying they do not match the company’s values.

Following Gibson’s statements, Shipwright Studios – one of the studios behind Chivalry 2 and Maneater – chose to terminate its partnership with Tripwire Interactive. They did not want to work with the studio under the leadership of the time. It is not known if they have changed their minds after the change of leadership.

In addition to Shipwright, Chivalry 2’s other developer, Torn Banner Studios, has announced that they distances itself from Gibson’s statements. A number of well-known industry figures also took a hard line against Gibson after the statements, including God of War director Cory Barlog and Portal 2 author Chet Falzieck.
