The Transition from Lightning to USB-C: Apple’s New Dongles and Adapters

Jakarta

With the release of the iPhone 15 line, many accessories and Lightning cables may no longer be used.

To make the transition from Lightning to USB-C easier, of course what Apple is doing is selling new dongles and adapters, for example the USB-C to Lightning Adapter, which costs USD 30. Its function is to connect a USB-C cable to a device with a Lightning port.

However, if users only need a USB-C cable, Apple also has a USB-C cable which costs USD 19 for a 1 meter cable with a maximum power of 60 watts, or a 2 meter cable with a maximum power of 240 watts which costs USD 29.

Both cables only support USB 2 speeds, not USB 3 as supported by the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. To take advantage of all the advantages of the two iPhones, the Apple cable that supports them is the Thunderbolt 4 Pro Cable, which is 1 meter long, has a maximum power of 100 watts and is priced at USD 69.

But fortunately, because this is a universal port, users are not required to buy a cable from Apple. This is different from the Lightning cable, which even if you don’t buy the Apple brand, you still need to pay attention to MFi certification before you can use it.

There are many USB-C cables from third-party manufacturers, from cheap to expensive, although perhaps not as expensive as those made by Apple. But once again, users need to pay attention to the standards supported by the cable. The reason is, even though the port is USB-C, there are many standards that are supported, both in terms of speed and maximum power that can be delivered.

It was previously known that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have a similar design to the previous series, but with several important differences. One of them is replacing the Lightning port with a USB-C port, which makes the iPhone more compatible with accessories and other devices.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have OLED screens measuring 6.1 inches and 6.7 inches. This screen supports HDR10, Dolby Vision, True Tone, Haptic Touch, and has a maximum brightness level of 2,000 nits. Unfortunately, this screen still uses a 60Hz refresh rate
