The time Roa thought about dedicating himself to medicine

Uniatónoma, Unión Magdalena, Deportivo Cali and Huracán were the clubs he went through Andres Roa before disembarking in Independent. Very few know it, but when he had not yet managed to establish himself as a footballer, the Colombian analyzed the possibility of studying medicine.

-Did you always know that your vocation was to be a footballer?

-Obviously when one is younger there is the doubt of whether or not they will arrive and at that moment I thought about being a doctor. But it was an option that I managed: in case football didn’t happen, I was going to dedicate myself to that. From the age of seven I started playing and that was my dream, my wish. Since I was 15 I went to Cali since I was recruited. And there the longing already saw it closer. My dream was always this and I was always 100% dedicated to football.

-Why doctor?

-When you’re in high school, they give you exams to see what you want to study later and my inclination was always on medicine. He always said “if football is not good for me, I want to be a doctor, I’m going to study medicine.”

-Did your parents support you in football or did they want you to study?

-My parents were always 100% football fans. They were my fans from minute one until today. And they always wanted me to do what I wanted. Now they are happy and proud, they want me to keep climbing and to always give my best.
