Appeared by the Alpes-Maritimes and the Nice region, in 2004, the tiger mosquito quickly invaded many French regions.
Eight years later, in 2012, he was in Lyon, then Strasbourg. The insect reached Paris two years ago in 2018.
In the space of a year, between 2018 and 2019, the tiger mosquito invaded seven additional French departments:
– Loire Atlantique
– Two Sevres
– Vienna
– Charente Maritime
– Expensive
– Haute-Savoie
– Yvelines
An “urban” mosquito
The tiger mosquito is mainly urban, notes the Ministry of Health. “Its anthropophilic nature, which likes places inhabited by man, explains that once installed in a commune or a department, it is practically impossible to get rid of it.”
Over 40% of the exposed population
In 27 departments in the southern half, including Corsica, more than 40% of the population is now exposed to the tiger mosquito, also said the Ministry of Health. In the other departments colonized by this mosquito, less than 40% of the population is exposed.
