Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic discuss the GOAT question on Instagram. It is clear to both that generations should not be compared.
The question of the GOAT (Greatest of all time) also concerns tennis players themselves. Who is the best tennis player ever? This discussion was conducted by Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic in an Instagram live talk. The two agree: Generations should not be compared because they did not play against each other. For Murray, it is clear who he is among the best players of all time: “In reality, the three best players play in the same generation.” The Briton of course means Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Djokovic.
Murray does not contradict his interlocutor. «I am sure that Borg would have played great in the current era and Nadal would have played wonderfully in Connors and McEnroe’s time. But the special thing is that you are three players who played at the same time. You can compare that. (…) That’s why I think the top three players are playing now. »
After being named the best player, Djokovic replies with “right”. However, they are no longer the youngest, says the 32-year-old Serb. «There are players like Thiem, Tsitsipas and Zverev. These guys have developed very quickly, they are ready and very close to a Grand Slam title. »

At a Grand Slam, the players become “beasts”
«When I started a Grand Slam tournament, I always felt different. I felt mentally stronger and more focused, ”says Murray. “Somehow I always played my best tennis at these tournaments.”
Djokovic knows exactly what Murray is talking about. «You become a beast. A grand slam victory and becoming number 1 in the world are one of the greatest dreams of a tennis player, »says Djokovic. “These dreams motivate us and that’s why we can get the best out of ourselves.”
