Djokovic’s detail with the Ukrainian tennis player Stakhovsky, who is fighting in Kiev

Djokovic sent a message to Stakhovsky and it was the Ukrainian himself who shared it on his Instagram account. The Belgrade tennis player offered to send money or any other kind of help to his colleague.

“Stako, how are you? Are you on the battlefield? I’m thinking of you. I hope everything calms down soon. Tell me where I can send the help…financial help or any kind of help…”. This was the message that Djokovic sent to Stakhovsky through Whatsapp and that the former player made public.

The tennis player has posted these days on social networks photos in which he appears dressed as a military man on the streets of Kiev. “Never in my life would I expect to have to wear a bulletproof vest in Kiev. It’s a disaster the way Russia invaded Ukraine… Bombing cities… Killing innocent people… World we must unite to make it stop… to put Putin where he deserves”.

To which Stakhovsky, who reached number 31 in the ATP ranking and experienced one of the highlights of his career by beating Roger Federer at Wimbledon 2013, replied: “Thank you for your support, Ukraine is grateful.”

Stakhovsky played his last tournament at the Australian Open in 2022, where he lost in the first round of qualifying. At that time, he decided to go to Kiev to participate in the Ukrainian defense against the Russian invasion of his country.

The Ukrainian and the Serbian met four times, all of them with a victory for Djokovic. The first was the 2009 Roland-Garros second round and the last in the 2015 round of 16 in Doha.
