He is the only king of France to have been crowned in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) and the territory wants to pay homage to him. The Chartres Tourist Office and the Union of Industrial and Hotel Trades of Eure-et-Loir are relaunching the mythical Henri IV weekend, initiated by Georges Jallerat.
The first gastronomic event of the year which also brings together history and heritage will take place Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 February 2022as close as possible to the anniversary date of the coronation of Henri IV in Chartrescrowned February 27, 1594.
La Poule au pot: the must!
As for Chartres kitchens, a dozen restaurants, partners of the Terres de Chartres will put the Boiled chicken in the spotlight, “everyone bringing their creative touch”, indicates C’Chartres Tourisme in a press release.
The chefs will revisit the Poule au pot and sublimate it by adding potatoes, as they do in Beauce, or, to rediscover their taste of heirloom vegetables, by gently simmering it with rutabagas, parsnips or Jerusalem artichokes.
Broth and History
Saturday morning, a bowl of broth will be offered to each visitor to the Chartres market, in the city center.
Several visits are organized in Chartres around the Good King and his coronation, the opportunity, also, to discover the Chartres of the 16ᵉ century. They will take place on Saturday all day and at the price of 10 € (Click here to access reservations).
