They offer missions abroad to collect information about deceased Bulgarians

Svetoslav Slavchev

The regional governor of Lovech Svetoslav Slavchev proposes to develop a procedure for how the death of Bulgarians abroad to be registered in our country – to proceed through the diplomatic and consular services of the country. He has sent a letter to the director of the General Directorate for Civil Registration and Administrative Services (GRAO), BNR reported.

The idea came after the Passport Office in Lovech informed him about the problems of the relatives of our compatriots who died abroad. At the moment only they can be issued a certified transcript or extract of the death document, which they then provide to the municipality ( at the last permanent address) with a certified translation into Bulgarian, performed by a Bulgarian diplomatic or consular representative or by a translation company / translator, entered in the register of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria.

The regional governor of Lovech believes that the feedback and respectively the timely updating of the civil events “death” abroad with Bulgarian citizens in the Unified System for Civil Registration and Administrative Services (ESGRAON) is lost, BNR reports.

According to Slavchev, it is necessary to develop a mechanism or procedure for collecting information on the death of Bulgarian citizens abroad from the diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Bulgaria abroad.
