The temperature at sea has decreased in part of the coast, in Mērsrags – by 15 degrees – in Latvia

As the southern wind intensifies, the water temperature in the sea has dropped in many places on the Latvian coast – especially on the Kurzeme coast of the Gulf of Riga, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.

As the wind blows the warm water layer and instead the cold water from the seabed enters, the water temperature in the port of Mērsrags has dropped by almost 15 degrees – from less than +23 degrees on Friday evening to +8 degrees on Sunday morning.

In Roja and Kolka, the water has cooled to +11 degrees.

According to satellite data, the water temperature has decreased by at least a few degrees on the Latvian coast from Ovišorags to Jūrmala.

In Liepāja, Ventspils and most of the Vidzeme coast, +18 .. + 19 degrees warm water remains.

The water temperature in most rivers and lakes on Sunday morning is +17 .. + 21 degrees.

In the coming days, the south-west wind will blow mainly, sometimes it will be gusty, therefore the coldest water will remain on the Kurzeme coast of the Gulf of Riga, the warmest – on the Vidzeme coast and on the open sea coast in Kurzeme, weather forecasters predict.
