This new plan, which provides, among other things, for the establishment of a national reference framework on student mental health for the university and college networks, will be accompanied by an investment of nearly $ 60 million over five years, including $ 4.812 million. $ per year for the public college network.

“We are very satisfied to see that the government is linking the results of this consultation on mental health to the results of the work that we are carrying out with the Ministry of Higher Education in connection with academic success, the two issues being inseparable according to our point. of view, ”said Bernard Tremblay, President and CEO of the Fédération des cégeps. “Also, the granting of adequate and stable funding in order to improve the psychosocial support service offerings for the student population is a breath of fresh air for the network, which will allow it to offer more and better equip students in mental health, ”he added.

In the positions it defended last January during the two days of consultation organized by the Ministry of Higher Education (MES) and included in the Action Plan tabled today, the Federation recommended in particular to reactivate a communication channel between the Federation, the MES and the Ministry of Health and Social Services, in the form of an enlarged Committee, to ensure consistency and complementarity between the higher education networks and the health network and social services (RSSS). Also, the Federation proposed adopting a systemic approach to mental health and recognition of the convergence between the issues of the psychological health of the student population and success.

Support for the implementation of the Student Mental Health Action Plan

Through its Committee on Anxiety and Stress in College Students (CASPEC), the Federation undertakes in particular to provide support to CEGEPs, in addition to ministerial support, for the appropriation of the measures of the Plan. action, as well as to support the planned participation in the work of developing the national reference framework as well as that of the enlarged committee on social and health services to student communities, intended to ensure the coherence and complementarity of actions between the higher education networks and that of the RSSS.

The Fédération des cégeps is the voluntary grouping of 48 public colleges in Quebec. It was created in 1969 in order to promote the development of college education and CEGEPs. It acts as the official spokesperson and forum for consultation of the CEGEPs, to which it offers services in matters of pedagogy, student affairs, international affairs, continuing education and business training, funding, research, etc. human resources, education assessment, legal affairs, information resources, negotiation and labor relations.
