Can a “simple” 911 Turbo S beat the terrible GT2 RS and the 918 Spyder? As crazy as it sounds, yes.

Porsche has just launched the new 992-generation 911 Turbo S on the market. Equipped with a twin-turbo flat-six pushed to 650 horsepower, it obviously claims higher performance compared to the previous version. But in principle, this model of the “normal” range of Porsche should not be able to approach the performance of the old 911 GT2 RS and its 700 horsepower.

Except that on the Hockenheim circuit, the driver Christian Gebhardt has just slammed a stopwatch in 1: 47: 8. The 911 GT2 RS, on the other hand, was satisfied with 1:49:10 on the same track. And the same driver couldn’t have done better than 1:48: 9 behind the wheel of the McLaren 600LT. Yes, this discreet four-seater GT runs really, really hard.

The best supercars in the sights

Faster than the 918 Spyder supercar (1: 48: 5), the new 911 Turbo S is only beaten by the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (1: 47: 3), the Ferrari 488 Pista (1: 45: 9) and the untouchable McLaren Senna (1:40:79). Now imagine the 911 Type 992 with a few more more horsepower, less kilos and semi-slick tires: we can’t wait for the next 911 GT2 RS …
