The State Security Service repeatedly urges not to go to Russia and Belarus

Taking into account the above, the service strongly recommends Latvian residents not to travel to Russia and Belarus during the upcoming holidays. If you do have to go to these aggressor countries, the service recommends not taking your mobile phone with you, especially if it contains work-related or sensitive information.

At the border checkpoint, data can be extracted from the mobile phone and it can also be infected with spyware. A safer choice will be a mobile phone with a prepaid card, which can be disposed of after the trip. Also, you should not bring a computer, flash drives and other data carriers.

VDD calls to take into account the signs that may indicate contact with a representative of the Russian or Belarusian special service during the border crossing.

Such signs are unusually increased checks and interrogations, the person asks questions that do not pertain to the competence of the border guard, for example, about the situation in the country of Latvia, the attitude towards the events in Ukraine, the war refugees who entered Latvia, the support provided by our country to Ukraine.

Also, such signs are asking private questions about the workplace, duties to be performed, financial situation.

In case of suspicion of contact with a representative of the Russian or Belarusian special service, the VDD invites you to provide information about it by calling the service’s 24-hour phone number 67208964 or writing to the e-mail address [email protected]. VDD guarantees the confidentiality of the information provider.
