This Sunday December, at 2 p.m. on the Esplanade Saint-Léonard, a new anti-curfew demonstration took place and brought together nearly thirty angry people who demand sensible and united health measures, as well as massive investments. for our health system and “to protect the people most weakened by the crisis”. The police, aware, had put a preventive device in place. Officers called on the protesters to leave over a loudspeaker and the procession broke up. As a reminder, a previous action had taken place on November 28 in the middle of the night.
“Bold and determined embers managed, this Sunday, to gather to form a procession despite the enormous police device“, Relate the organizers. “Two pumper, a helicopter, a large number of combis and police officers were present everywhere in the city center of Liège. On the Esplanade Saint-Léonard and its surroundings, from 2 p.m., the police carry out numerous checks, and several searches also take place. Their objective was clearly to deter people from joining the plaza and to prevent those who managed to get there from joining together to form a rally. The state reacted as it has for a year to the virus, by controlling and repressing, instead of listening to the people most affected by the crisis, health and social work personnel to develop socially just measures.”
The police indicate that ten people were arrested administratively (including a minor) for disturbing public order. In addition, no authorization had been requested for this event which was not static, contravening the ministerial decree.
