The Spring model brings electromobility in a very affordable and extremely simple form. It is a tiny, modestly equipped and technically uncomplicated car. But it handles its task, i.e. cheap emission-free transport around the city and its surroundings, perfectly, so most owners will forgive it.
In the future, however, there won’t be so many compromises, because the automaker is preparing for a large-scale modernization (that is, not just a minor facelift). It is no secret that the basis of the Spring is the Renault Kwid, a car designed for developing markets and produced since 2015, which was reworked in 2019 with an electric drive for the Chinese market, where it is sold under the name Kwid K-ZE. Some modernization would definitely benefit him.
After all, the Spring model received certain improvements already at the beginning of this year, when its drive was strengthened by almost half (from 45 to 65 hp, which did wonders for the dynamics of the Spring) and it received a more handsome and sophisticated Extreme equipment, which boasts copper-colored details on the outside even inside. But since the automaker feels the additional potential of the electric Spring, it wants to give it even more flair.

In an interview with the British magazine Autocar, the brand’s design director David Durand admitted that the Spring “lacks a bit of modernity” and therefore “should be modified to better express its electric drive”. At the same time, however, he should not retreat from his original concept of a slightly raised hatchback (almost a crossover): “The basic recipe of Spring is correct. There are many pitfalls waiting for parking in the city. We’ve also noticed that many owners living in more remote suburbs and rural areas have the Spring as their second car. This does not mean that the Spring should be driven off-road, but it is not just a car for the city center.”
For the next model year, we can therefore look forward to a revised exterior design together with more extensive interior modifications – both in terms of the quality of materials and the range of comfort and technological equipment. This is to better cope with the imminent arrival of strong competitors from Volkswagen (the forthcoming ID.2 and the even cheaper ID.1), Renault (the electric reincarnation of the Model 5 is already knocking on the door), Citroën (the next e-C3, which is to borrow a few “savings” ideas from Oli) and others.
