Last night the Canadiens and Flyers played the opener of the series, a good, fairly close game that the Flyers managed to win by a score of 2-1.
If you’ve watched the game, you know the Canadiens took a little while to get established in the game, but in the second half the Flyers were dominated by the speed and aggressiveness of the CH players.
Possession of puck in 2nd period:
Canadian: 73.5%
Flyers: 26,5%– Martin Leclerc (@MLeclerc_Hockey) August 13, 2020

Alain Vigneault recognized it a little earlier, the Canadian is a team that can hurt if its opponent does not control the puck well.
AV: If you don’t manage the puck well against MTL, they could be the top 2 or 3 teams in the league in speed, and in the 2nd period our puck management slipped and they came at us.@AllHabs @RocketSports @theflyersreport @ThePressZone #Habs #GoHabsGo #anytimeanywhere #Flyers

If Carter Hart had not held the fort of his team in a brilliant way as he did during the second period yesterday, it’s a safe bet that the Habs could lead this series today.
But hey, the guards are also paid for that!
Whether it’s Lehkonen, Suzuki, Byron or Armia, the Habs attackers have managed to use their speed to give themselves good chances to score, without however succeeding in shaking the ropes.
By dint of shooting, the Canadiens will eventually get the better of Carter Hart. If they continue to apply pressure and use their speed like they did in the second half yesterday, it could hurt the Flyers a lot.
In the end, the style of hockey used by the Flyers is very solid. With yesterday’s game, we could easily see why they have been so dominant since the start of 2020.

Apart from during the second period, CH could not create many opportunities on the attack. We knew the defensive talent was there for the Flyers, but if you haven’t watched that team’s games a lot during the season, you could see how effective they are.
Not very spectacular, but effective .. Kirk Muller should take note of it and relay this style of play to the Canadian ..

– He had played 65 minutes in the last game.
Seth Jones played only 28:31 today.
He’ll probably ride the bike and get a workout in afterward.

– Après Korpisalo et Merzlikins, voici Vehvilainen.
A little #CBJ roster news: With Elvis Merzlikins dinged up, goalie Veini Vehvilainen has joined the team in the bubble and is going through the quarantine protocols.

– Speaking of Korpisalo, he’s on fire.
Korpisalo has a .962Sv% in his six games (which includes the quintuple OT). You wonder if he and his agent are regretting signing the two-year deal this past April for $2.8m/year. The way he is playing he’d be closer to $4m now, which is what Merzlikins signed for on April 23rd.
