The romantic ebb and flow relationship between the characters Ross Gellar and Rachel Green was not just in front of the cameras. Actors Jennifer Aniston and David Schuymer first revealed in the new episode that they liked each other a lot during the filming of the series’ first years, but their first kiss was actually the first kiss of their characters in front of a camera in 1995.

“I remember telling David once that it would be awful if our first kiss was actually on national television. And so it was! We kissed for the first time in that cafe,” Aniston said in the episode “Friends: Reuniting.” Friends: The Reunion “).

“We directed all the adoration and love for each other in Ross and Rachel,” she added.

The passionate kiss at Central Park Cafe in the second season is considered one of the landmarks of the series, which ended in 2004, after the two characters finally reunited as a couple. Schuymer and Aniston say that their mutual attraction lasted during the first two years of the show, but they never became a couple outside the series because they both had other relationships.

“We were like two ships crossing because one of us was always in touch with the other. We never crossed that line, we respected it,” Schuymer said. He remembered how during the first one or two years, during the breaks between rehearsals, the two huddled on the couch.

“How did the others not know we were going down?” He asked fellow Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, Courtney Cox and Lisa Kudrow. “We knew, of course,” Cox said.
