The Sougaret and Noblia affair – The crimes of my mill, episode 1

There used to be a mill in Ascain where the inhabitants of the surrounding country came to bring their grain. The owner of the place, a certain Sougaret, passed for a happy fellow. Rich, feared by all, his gloomy mood was often so quarrelsome that few people dared to argue with him. Angry to death with his neighbor Haraneder, nicknamed Jolimon, Sougaret ended up being summoned before the Justice of the Peace of Saint Jean de Luz, who ruled in favor of the less fortunate litigant. Vexed, Sougaret found it very difficult to console himself, no doubt telling himself that revenge is a dish best eaten cold. We are in the year 1880. The miller of Ascain has just lost his wife following an illness, he is now a widower. Never mind, Sougaret hires a village resident named Marie. From the top of her 17 years, the energetic young woman displays very black eyes with attractive brown hair.

Recruited as a simple servant, Marie conquers her master who installs her in her bed. She gets pregnant three times. “An accident” in the eyes of Sougaret for whom it is out of the question for Marie to devote herself to motherhood: “To become a mother at your age, but you don’t think about it!” “. Sougaret therefore appealed three times to an abortionist Luzienne who “freed” the young boniche. The forty-year-old miller tries to redeem himself by promising Marie that one day they will marry … The young woman struggles to understand that Sougaret is dragging the reputation of an incorrigible womanizer here.
