The Smolensk subcommittee showed a film “report” on the work. There was a clash: Macierewicz versus Lasek

Two outbreaks – on the left wing and in the center wing of the Tupolev – are mentioned in the main thesis of the report on the work of the subcommittee chaired by Antoni Macierewicz, investigating the circumstances of the Smolensk disaster. The report was presented – in the form of a film – at a session of the Parliamentary National Defense Committee. During the meeting, there was a sharp exchange of views – and allegations – between Macierewicz and Maciej Lask, a member of the first commission that investigated the causes of the crash, and now an opposition member of parliament. The former head of the Ministry of National Defense accused Lasek, among other things, that he “falsified the evidence, (…) cheated the public”, Lasek, in turn, did not leave a dry thread on “amateurs without experience” from the subcommittee, and accused Macierewicz himself about the fact that he has deliberately misled Poles for years.

The Parliamentary National Defense Committee has gathered at the request of members of the Civic Coalition, to discuss the activities of the government subcommittee for re-examination of the causes of the Smolensk disaster, headed by the former head of the Ministry of National Defense, Antoni Macierewicz.

Report on the work of the Macierewicz subcommittee, presented in the form of film material, argues with the report of the state Commission for the Investigation of Aviation Accidents, which in 2010-11 investigated the causes of the Smolensk disaster.

Let us recall that the team led by the then head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Jerzy Miller, stated in the report that the cause of the disaster on April 10, 2010 was the descent of the machine below the minimum descent height in the absence of visibility and, consequently, a collision of the plane with trees, which led to the gradual destruction of the Tu-154M structure. The Commission also emphasized that neither the sound recorders nor the flight parameters support the thesis about the explosion on board plane.

The main thesis of Antoni Macierewicz’s report is that of Fr. two outbursts on the left wing and in the Tupolev’s center wing.

As stated in the material: found on the remains of the plane traces of TNT, hexogen and pentrite.

According to the members of the subcommittee, the nature of the plane’s destruction and the scattering of its fragments, as well as the injuries of the victims, indicate that the explosion took place in the Tupolev.

“The scale of injuries to passengers is much greater than could have been expected – in 45 percent of victims multiple body fragmentation; 74 percent the victims had no clothes, fully or partially. Very severe burns occurred in 47 percent. victims most of which were outside the ground fire, even more than 50 meters away. Many victims had foreign bodies stuck into the body – shards of sheathing, glass, and even fragments of a steel bearing “- indicated in the footage.

It was noted that on the basis of the conducted research and analyzes, the subcommittee concluded that such injuries could not have happened only as a result of the plane colliding with the ground.

“All this material indicates that the plane must have exploded” – emphasized in the material.

According to the subcommittee, the explosion is also indicated by the damage to the left wing of the Tu-154M.

“The difference in the shape of the edge of the cut-off part and the one that remained in contact with the fuselage is not without significance. While the former, with blast curls, is damaged along a straight line, the part of the wing remaining at the fuselage has damaged upper plating, ribs and stringers. Here you can clearly see the action of the blast wave going towards the hull “ – argued the authors of the report.

Shortly after the explosion, a second explosion was to take place on the left wing: in the center wing of the plane, near the so-called general’s lounge.

“It was this cargo that killed the passengers of the lounge, scattering their remains almost 100 meters away, blew up the left passenger door and destroyed the left center wing so that its first spar, blackened by the blast, flew 80 meters to the northeast, and the rear part of the fuselage behind the center wing with the sides folded outwards fell 50 meters beyond the site of the explosion “- reported in the subcommittee material.

Added that the scatter of machine parts testifies to “the violent disintegration of the plane in the air”.

“Some of the fragments also bore characteristic traces – microcraters on their surface, corresponding in shape and size to the traces on the fragments, which were formed after the pyrotechnic experiment carried out by the subcommittee. This feature is characteristic of damage caused by detonation” – stated in the presentation.

They also appeared in the material allegations against Russian investigators, who investigated the causes of the crash: that they tried to hide evidence of explosions in Tupolev, as well as to the Miller’s committee, including its deputy head, and currently a member of the Civic Coalition, Maciej Lasek: Macierewicz’s syndrome he accused them of not “actually investigating the Smolensk tragedy”.

“Miller and Lasek Commission she wanted to avoid wrapping the whip on her own back, she wanted to satisfy the demands of Donald Tusk and Vladimir Putin, has done the negligible amount of research received expert opinions and information were omitted or falsified under a predetermined thesis “ – stated the Macierewicz subcommittee in its report.

In reaction to the presentation of the Smolensk subcommittee, opposition MPs emphasized that expect from Antoni Macierewicz a report on the team’s work, not film material.

Member of the Civic Coalition Joanna Kluzik-Rostkowska she said the video’s description of the subcommittee’s findings reminded her disinformation, and her club mate Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz emphasized that the presented film material is difficult to verify for methodological reasons, and such verification would only be made possible by the report: along with the adopted research methodology and conclusions.

Sienkiewicz also assessed that Macierewicz’s subcommittee failed to prove the “assassination and murder”, which were discussed in the film, and argued that the head of the Ministry of National Defense should be responsible for such effects of the team’s work.

Vice-chairman of the Parliamentary National Defense Committee Cezary Mroczek, also from the Civic Coalition, he expressed instead I hope this is the end of “this pathetic subcommittee”.

Mroczek also noted that neither the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Mariusz Błaszczak, nor the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki had commented on the subcommittee’s on the outbreak, which – as he commented – may confirm that “no one is taking the chairman of this subcommittee” Antoni Macierewicz seriously.

A member of the Confederation asked about the report, its authors and the costs of the work of the subcommittee Grzegorz Braun. He argued that the report should be made available to the public, and suggested that a closed committee meeting be held, if there is a need to protect its members – whose names, let us add, have not been disclosed so far.

Braun also admitted that the film presented at the meeting was for him “extremely interesting at times”.

Member of the Civic Coalition Maciej Lasek accused Macierewicz’s people of lack of competence.

“In a few days it will be 54 months since the former Minister of National Defense, the deputy Antoni Macierewicz, obsessed with conspiracies and attacks, he appointed the Smolensk subcommittee – the body he entrusted examination of the investigated accident and proving, contrary to the facts, a predetermined thesis. Let me remind you that to do this, Mr. Antoni Macierewicz he had to hire amateurs with no experience in the subcommittee in the investigation of air accidents, because the real specialists whom he tried to recruit, despite applying various forms of pressure to them, refused to participate in it “- emphasized Maciej Lasek.

As he added, “due to the lack of specialists,” the former head of the Ministry of National Defense entrusted the management of the technical team of the subcommittee to “a specialist in the strength of concrete structures, and the pilot team – to an architect”.

“What have we learned in the past 54 months? Nothing new about the causes of the disaster. For over four years, the subcommittee did not go further than to Mińsk Mazowiecki to see what the Tupolev looks like “ Lasek sneered.

He also pointed out to the members of the subcommittee that they never went to Smolensk, where the Tu-154M wreck is located, or to Moscow, where they could make their own copies of the records from the Polish aircraft’s recorders.

Macierewicz himself was accused by Lasek that for years he has deliberately misled the public.

“The Subcommittee did not present new evidence for a different course of events, the actions it undertook do not bring it closer to this goal, but they are expensive. How much – it is not known, because this information has been hidden from the public and parliamentarians for a long time (…) Lack of effects and failure to achieve the goal set out in the justification for resuming the task – this is a showcase not only of the subcommittee, but also the Ministry of Defense, in which this subcommittee operates “- commented the coalition MP.

He called on the members of the government present at the meeting to decide to end the activities of the subcommittee: for – as he said – the good of the state and respect for the victims of the Smolensk disaster.

After Maciej Lasek’s speech Deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense Wojciech Skurkiewicz he pointed out that at the committee meetings one can argue, but “no one gave the right to offend others”. Addressing the Member directly, he stated: “The Lord despises those who work on the commission and who want to come to the truth.”

At the same time, Skurkiewicz stated that – contrary to the claims of the KO MP – the subcommittee is “a completely independent body”, an “independent entity”, also independent of the management of the Ministry of Defense or any political factors.

Antoni Macierewicz in turn, he called Maciej Lasek’s speech “incredible”.

“In the Polish tradition it is extraordinary, but in the Soviet tradition it is natural, it is common, it is everyday, it is a classic way of operating “- he commented.

The former head of the Ministry of National Defense also stated that Lasek’s achievements were “special”: “Because the Civic Platform and the opposition, as I understand it, made the decision to represent it a man who forged evidence, who deceived the Polish nation, deceived society, who deleted the word ‘explosion’ at all costs, by changing them so that Polish public opinion would not know that American experts – who were invited to this cooperation, who provided the expertise to the prosecutor’s office and the commission with which Mr. Lasek cooperated – stated unequivocally that an explosion had occurred. “
